A big thank you to Julia Mannix, one of our past program participants and regular supporter of The Gawler Cancer Foundation, for organising a ”High Tea” fundraiser on Saturday 16th Janaury 2016 which raised a generous $300!
Julia's High Tea
Having 2 of my sisters visiting from Europe, the High Tea Fundraiser was a great opportunity for some of my family members to meet my Aussie ”support Sisters”. It was very reassuring for them know that I have an effective support network here, that assists me in a very real way when I need it most.
It was also a great opportunity to also thank my many girlfriends for all their help, and to give them clarification on what they can do to best to assist me at this point in my cancer journey… at the moment the road seems a bit rocky as I am currently undergoing more chemotherapy, and experiencing many of the unpleasant side-effects of the treatment.
The High Tea worked out really well as everybody contributed tasty finger food &/or raffle items and we had great fun distributing all the prizes at the end of the afternoon, along with promoting the great work that the Foundation does.
I would like to thank the Gawler Foundation for contributing a copy of your latest Eat Well : Be Well cookbook as one of the prizes – it was snapped up quickly! I also handed out the free magazines and informative materials you provided, as well as the meditation CD’s, to a number of ladies who are currently either working through their own cancer journey, or know someone else who is dealing with cancer.
I would like to add that my heart and thoughts have been with the family and friends of Jodie Catt – a very dear friend and great inspiration to me – who benefited a great deal from her connection with The Gawler Cancer Foundation. I met Jodie at my first cancer retreat program and she sadly passed away on the 12th December 2015, at too young an age, leaving behind her partner Martin and family (including 3 gorgeous, young boys and an amazingly supportive Mother). I will miss her courage, her strength and her infectious smile, but have consoled myself with the knowledge that The Gawler Cancer Foundation was able to do a great deal to assist her.
Organizing these fundraising events means that I am able to give back to an organization that, I feel, has also made a world of difference to my own personal cancer journey.
