Summer 2014, Living Well Magazine

On the weekend of 23-24 November we hosted our annual Profound Healing – Sustainable Wellbeing Conference. Three professors, seven doctors and numerous experts in specialist fields presented the latest research in complementary and lifestyle medicine, shared personal stories and provided practical tools to help prevent and manage chronic illness. The speakers were vibrant and full of passion, providing an abundance of take-home practical advice that could be put into practise in day-to-day life.

Thank you to all speakers, staff and volunteers who donated their time and energy. Thank you to all the sponsors for your enthusiastic support of this event as well as the health and wellbeing of our community.

Thank you to the remarkable audience. What a beautiful crowd of warm-hearted and like-minded individuals. It was so wonderful to read the feedback we received after the event.

Here are a few of the comments we thought we’d share. There might be some reminders in here for you as we head into the new year.

Most important take home messages:

“ Learn to take care of yourself and take responsibility and accountability for your choices and actions in life.”

“Small changes can have a big impact.”

“ I should be the driver of my own health and I can choose to be so or not. Recovery is possible and even small changes will help larger ones help more.”

“Multi-tasking is a dirty word!”

“Wellness is entirely in my hands – be present, love myself, eat organic foods, exercise, give of myself, spiritual connectedness. These will all allow me to experience wellness on the highest level.”

“Where do I begin? I suppose the most important message I obtained was how lucky we are in Melbourne to have The Gawler Foundation to support and empower those who are facing serious illness and to inspire those who aren’t to achieve a healthier lifestyle.”

“ I have the right to choose and my choices should be respected.”

“Mind, body and soul are all equally important to achieve healing, there are many people around to assist with this journey who are highly skilled and supportive.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you! My body, mind and soul have been nourished by this conference. Mindfulness was evident in your speakers and is something to strive for.”

“Self-care is not selfish.”

“ The importance of being kind to ourselves on our journey through life, how to look after ourselves well, and respond to illness in a way that opens a door to profound transformation.” “Walk barefoot more often!”
