Cancer Support Group with Liz Stillwell

This weekly online support group is run independently by Liz Stilwell. Liz was a senior facilitator for the Yarra Valley Living Centre’s Outsmart Cancer Retreat programs. 

As taught in those programs, effective support is essential in coping with the emotional, mental and physical challenges of cancer. This online support group has been specifically tailored to offer extended support to past participants of Outsmart Cancer online or retreat programs.

This online group offers a regular, safe and supportive group environment for you to share your thoughts and experiences with like-minded people who are also utilising our 7 Essential Elements as part of their cancer healing strategy, to ask questions, and to receive advice and support to keep you on track.

Each 90-minute session will open with a 20-minute guided Meditation, before opening into group discussion. Due to the interactive and supportive nature of these sessions, participant numbers are limited.

About Liz

Liz Stilwell

Liz has an extensive background in Health spanning over 35 years – Occupational Therapy in Psychiatry in NZ, Counselling, Clinical Hypnotherapy and NLP in private practice, and with TGCF she has led Lifestyle change programmes for people with cancer, taught Mindfulness meditation courses and groups, and counselled many people affected by cancer.  As a Spiritual Carer, Liz works in public Hospitals and Palliative care, carrying a compassionate holistic approach to counselling individuals and their families through significant life changes. She has a deep interest in how our spiritual growth can flourish through the illness experience.

Her Counselling specialises in trauma recovery, anxiety, depression and insomnia, her approach influenced by her meditation practice of mindfulness. For 5 years, Liz assisted Drs Ian and Ruth Gawler in leading annual Mindfulness Meditation retreats in NZ.

These classes are specifically tailored to people with movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Parkinson’s syndrome, and Huntington’s disease, who have a fair degree of mobility (light to moderately affected). Participating with a support person is welcomed and encouraged where possible.

Mindful Mondays Community 

Join senior therapist and expert mindfulness trainer, Daniel Cerny, for his Monday evening explorations into the many facets and applications of the mindfulness practice.

In an ever-changing world, the mindfulness practice offers refuge, nourishment and connection. The ability to reconnect with our inner sanctuary – a place of peace, stillness and love, and to develop the inner resources to calm an overactive mind, take greater care of ourselves and to live a fuller and more purposeful life.

These enriching one-hour sessions will offer guidance and support as you progress along your mindfulness journey, and the opportunity to connect and share with a community of like-minded individuals. Each week, we will come together and delve into insightful teachings centred around a different theme, enjoy a 25-minute group meditation, and exchange questions and experiences with other members of the group.

Downloadable audio of the guided meditations will also be provided following each session to support you with your daily practices. Follow up feedback and questions are encouraged, and will be answered the following Monday.

Dear Friends,

In these changing times, Maia and I would like to reach out to past participants and thank you for your on-going support to The Gawler Foundation. Our lives have certainly been enriched by the contact that we have had with all the program participants at the Yarra Valley Living Centre’s retreats.

We would also like an opportunity for potential new participants to find and explore on-going courses with us.

Maia and I intend to continue to facilitate meditation and healing retreats as well as Meditation Teachers’ Training programs. After all, this is our calling!

Our on-going programs will be delivered in person, on-line or both.

We are still awaiting more clarity about this, however, our strong intention is to continue.

Maia will also facilitate her twice-monthly Mindfulness-based Stillness Meditation sessions on Zoom – first and third Wednesday of the month.

Stacey has been a chef for 30 years, and in the last 10 years Stacey developed a keen interest in health and nutrition. Stacey has been studying Health Science and Nutrition at University while working as Head Chef/Catering Manager at The Gawler Foundation and its Yarra Valley Living Centre for the past 6 years.

Stacey specialises in and is very passionate about wholefood plant-based cooking (and eating). After being constantly asked to teach this way of cooking, Stacey decided to open her home kitchen up to those on a path to making a change but don’t know where or how to start.
