Approximately 20% of Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year.
Having a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) qualification gives you the skills and confidence to assist someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. It is a practical and valuable qualification that can help you make a positive impact in peoples lives, and in the health of our wider communities.
The MHFA framework was developed in partnership with research from the University of Melbourne. In doing so, guidelines were developed to offer practical for a wide range of mental health problems, crises and contexts.
You will gain:
Knowledge of mental illnesses, treatments and appropriate first aid strategies.
Confidence in providing MHFA to a person in need
Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental illness, including early signs
Respond effectively, with evidence-based tools and strategies
Maintain appropriate boundaries
Greater Awareness MHFA educates and therefore changes the stigma associated with mental health challenges
About Alison Hutchens
Alison is a former senior executive. Her career of 27 years includes 24 years holding senior corporate positions, running teams in high-pressure sales, consulting and service delivery environments. She has also lived and worked across Australia, Asia and Europe in various Business Consulting roles. She has managed several diverse workforces with different challenges and knows what it is like to work under pressure while trying to maintain a work-life balance. She discovered Laughter Yoga while working in the UK and found that it was an amazing team-building exercise and lots of fun. She witnessed first-hand the impact that it had on her team members: reducing stress, depression and anxiety. Alison travelled to India in 2017 and trained at the Laughter Yoga University in person with Dr Madan Kataria (The Founder of Laughter Yoga ). Alison runs Laughter Yoga workshops in corporate environments and also in the community throughout Australia.
