Approximately 20% of Australian adults experience a common mental illness each year.
Having a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) qualification gives you the skills and confidence to assist someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. It is a practical and valuable qualification that can help you make a positive impact in peoples lives, and in the health of our wider communities.
The MHFA framework was developed in partnership with research from the University of Melbourne. In doing so, guidelines were developed to offer practical for a wide range of mental health problems, crises and contexts.
You will gain:
Knowledge of mental illnesses, treatments and appropriate first aid strategies.
Confidence in providing MHFA to a person in need
Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental illness, including early signs
Respond effectively, with evidence-based tools and strategies
Maintain appropriate boundaries
Greater Awareness MHFA educates and therefore changes the stigma associated with mental health challenges
About Alison Hutchens
Alison is a former senior executive. Her career of 27 years includes 24 years holding senior corporate positions, running teams in high pressure sales, consulting and service delivery environments. She has also lived and worked across Australia, Asia and Europe in various Business Consulting roles. Within this time, Alison has had firsthand corporate experience working with monthly targets, productivity challenges, staff retention, customer satisfaction, stakeholder management and managing team moral and burnout. She has managed several diverse workforces with different challenges and knows what it is like to work under pressure whilst trying to maintain work life balance.
Leveraging her experience, Alison is a regular corporate speaker on Mental Health and Stress Management. She is a certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer and Mindfulness Meditation Teacher. She is also certified Emotional Intelligence Facilitator (GENOS), Master Practitioner of NLP and a Professional Coach (London Coaching Academy).
Alison is passionate about Mental Health Awareness and actively trying to contribute toward a world where everyone has the first aid skills to support people with mental health challenges.
