Retreat Overview

Multiple sclerosis is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. It is a chronic, typically progressive and unpredictable disease, often striking those with most of their life ahead of them. Fortunately with dedicated lifestyle modification and effective support it is indeed possible to halt the progression of MS.

"The science is clear. People with MS who learn these self-help techniques,
integrate them with the best of current medical management, and
sustain the lifestyle changes, can reasonably hope to stabilise their
condition where it is; that is to halt its progression. There is the more
radical possibility of profound healing and the reversal of symptoms."
Professor George Jelinek, Author of Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis,
continues to live symptom free since 1999.

Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis
4 night Retreat Program

The ‘Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis’ retreat program is a practical and inspirational five-day  retreat program, based on Professor Jelinek’s scientific research, clinical experience and profound insight, as well as the Yarra Valley Living Centre’s 30 years of experience in lifestyle medicine and self-help healing programs.

Professor Jelinek is a Professor in emergency medicine and author of the books Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis and Recovering from Multiple Sclerosis, both of which are currently available for FREE from our Resource Centre/webstore (postage charges apply).

During this retreat program you will acquire the techniques, lifestyle changes and prescribed medical management practices that, when combined, may stabilise MS and potentially enable recovery.

Our expert team of facilitators including Professor George Jelinek, Dr Georgie Stanton, Dr Keryn Taylor and Dr Sam Gartland, have overcome their own diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis using these same strategies. Participants will gain invaluable insight and information from these facilitators, and most sessions will involve learning through direct participation and experience.  Discussion is encouraged and there is plenty of time for questions and answers.

Participants will also benefit from the supportive and conducive group environment, and can expect to leave feeling inspired, informed and capable of taking more control of their lives.

You are encouraged to bring along a support person and we can discuss this further with you.

The aims of the program:

  • Halt the progression of MS – supported by evidence based research
  • Maximise healing and wellbeing
  • Create a sustainable program for each participant to take with them
  • Increase awareness of current options including medical treatments, complementary medicine, self-help and healing techniques
  • Generate confidence to make informed, effective choices
  • Address prevailing fears and misunderstanding of MS; seeking to clarify the confusion and transform this into positive outcomes
  • Examine the meaning and purpose of your life
  • Use the group process to facilitate communication and to generate a mutually supportive network.

The Overcoming MS Retreat is conducted at our beautiful Yarra Valley Living Centre in Yarra Junction, Victoria. The healing environment helps you integrate what you are learning in peaceful natural surrounds away from the busyness of everyday life.  Our caring and experienced therapists and staff will be available to assist you in the program and help you to get maximum benefit.

Testimonial:

“I had the privilege of attending the Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis Retreat this January 2020. The group was fun and supportive with the common goal of the pursuit of a greater understanding in living well with MS. The comprehensive content of the programme was delivered by inspiring facilitators George, Georgie and Liz who genuinely lead by example. Following the OMS recommendations for a few years now have benefited me greatly by basically giving me the skills and confidence to slow down, eat well and appreciate life. I have experienced no new relapses. A notable bonus was being able to claim a portion of the Retreat costs via NDIS.”
